Тема: Do you like living in your country?

«Welcome to Uglich».
Оборудование: компьютеры, карточки с заданиями, презентация к уроку.
Ход урока:
1. Организационный момент.
-Good morning, boys and girls! I am glad to see you! Today we have an unusual lesson.
You see, we are in the computer’s room, not in the English one. How are you today?
What day of the week is today?
Today we are going to work in 3 groups.
2. Введение в тему.
- Let` s start our lesson. We start to work with a big theme «Do you like living in your
country? » At home you read the text where British students answer the question why
they think they are the best.

- Our guides help you to know about some of them. Listen to them very attentively,
because they have prepared questions for you. You can also get points for your work.
Pupil 1. Buckingham Palace is the official residence of the Queen and her family. It isn't open
to the public. The first monarch who took residence there was Queen Victoria. It has 600 rooms,
a swimming pool, a cinema, a ballroom, and a garden. In summer the Queen gives three garden
parties for about 9,000 guests. The ceremony of the Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace
is a great tourist attraction. It takes place in the forecourt at 11:30 a.m. and lasts half an hour.

Pupil 2. Trafalgar Square is the centre of London. The English is proud of Trafalgar Square,
which named so in memory of the victory at the battle. Someone said it is the most beautiful
place in the world. It is certainly large and impressive. Trafalgar Square is one of the most
famous public places in the United Kingdom. In the middle of the square there is a very famous
statue "Nelson's Column" which is over 170 feet high. The Statue on the top is built in the
memory of Lord Nelson who won the most famous sea battle at Trafalgar.
-Where is Trafalgar square situated?
Pupil 3. The Houses of Parliament, the seat of the Britain Government, are there. It is a beautiful
building with two towers and a very big clock called Big Ben. The great bell was made in
London foundry in 1858. It weighs 13.5 tons (about the same as two double-decker buses). Big
Ben is the name of the bell only -not the clock, and not the tower.
-What is Big Ben?
Pupil 4. The Tower of London is one of the most important historical sights. It includes not one,
but 20 towers. The Tower of London dates back to the 11-th century. The Tower of London is a
very old building, - nine hundred years old! In the early days of England the English kings lived
in the Tower. It was a fortress, and then it was a prison where many people died. Black ravens
had much food near the walls of the Tower in those days. Now the Tower of London is a
museum.
-How old is the Tower of London?
- Thank you very much.
6.Работа над словами.
-We have traveled to London and now we are going back to our country, to the place
where we all live, to the town which we know very well. What is the name of it? You are
right, today we start to talk about our native town Uglich, one of the provincial towns of
Russia.
I offer you to make a project about our town «Welcome to Uglich! » Try to imagine that
you are a guide and make an excursion. First of all we have to write down main words
which we need in our theme.
-You task is to write out nouns or adjectives from the sentences which you sea on the
slides.
Slide 1. Uglich is not just a provincial town. It is a historical and cultural monument of
Russia.
Slide 2. Uglich is unique in its beauty: the church of Dimitry «Built on the blood»,
Cathedral of the Resurrection and other beautiful churches.
Slide 3 There is a historical and art museum on the territory of the Kremlin. There are a
lot of other different museums in Uglich.
Slide 4 Uglich is situated on the bank of the great Russian river Volga.
Slide 5 Many tourists from Russia and abroad come to visit Uglich, one of the most
beautiful towns on the Volga. Here they can buy a lot of different souvenirs.
Slide 6 Uglich is a gemstone in the crown of the Golden Ring of Russian cities.
You can add some words from the text, you’ve prepared.

7.Работа над проектом

gemstone? What attracts tourists in Uglich? (Museums, churches, history, beautiful
nature…)
-I`d like each group to formulate the questions which are important during our work at
the project.
- What is so interesting in the history of Uglich?

-What sights can attract tourists in Uglich?
-Oh, your questions are the same as mine.
Every group will work with one of the themes.
