We have learned about the history of Halloween & now
let me introduce how this holiday is celebrated nowa-
days.
Before you watch the film tell me what do you think
Halloween is a scary or a funny holiday nowadays?
Let’s watch the video & then answer my question.
(Watching Oxford video film. Halloween).
1) You’ve watched the film, what is your opinion- is
Halloween a scary or a funny holiday?
2) Let’s summarize our knowledge about Halloween.
I think that Hal-
loween is a scary
holiday because
people put scary
fancy costumes
& frighten one
another.
To my mind Hal-
loween is both a
scary & a funny
holiday nowa-
days, of course,
people try to look
like more scary
but they arrange
funny parties,
play special Hal-
loween games-
Apple-bobbing &
apples on strings,
they eat a lot of
tasty food. It’s
fun.
The pupils tell
about this holi-
day.
1. 31 October is
Halloween. This
festival cele-
brates the return
of the souls of
the dead who
come back to vis-
it places where
they lived.
In the evening
there are lots of
Halloween par-
7
3) Now, let’s arrange our Halloween party ourselves.
At first, we can play apples on strings.
One of the pupils comes & helps the teacher to hold the
ties. People dress
up as witches,
ghosts, devils,
cats or bats. Hos-
es are decorated
with pumpkins
with candles in-
side them. Some
children follow
the American
custom called
Trick or Treat.
2. They knocked
at your house &
ask: & “Trick or
treat?” If you
give some money
or some sweets
(a treat), they go
away. If not, they
can play a trick
on you, like
splashing water
in your face.
3. No Halloween
party is complete
without a scary
story. Usually
people crowd to-
gether around a
fire on Hallow-
een night & tell a
scary story in a
low voice.

string. Three pupils try to catch the apple & to bite as
much as possible.
Ready, steady, go!
4) Oh. I forgot about the pumpkin. Who knows how to
do it? Look the presentation «Pumpkin for Holiday
Party».
Now you know how to do it. «Will you help me,
please? »
One of the pupils helps the teacher:
- We have already cut the top & the bottom.
- We’ve taken out the pulp.
- We’ve cut two eyes, a nose, a mouth.
- We’ve lit the candle.
- We’ve stood the candle inside the pumpkin.
- It’s really a scary face! It’s great!
5) It’s hard to imagine the party without a scary story.
One of the pupils tells one.
«This story happened in a dark wood in October.
There was a little village, called Green Village where
some little animals lived. Tim & Jim were little worms,
they enjoyed traveling on their own, without mothers,
teachers, elder brothers & sisters.
One day, just before Halloween, Tim & Jim went
for a walk. They imagined themselves as brave travel-
lers discovering new lands. It was already very late &
dark when they wanted to go home. But they lost their
way, they were hungry, tired & couldn’t go any longer.
They were frightened & began to cry, called for
help. They thought that someone could hear & save
them.
At that moment the whole village crowded round
the little pumpkin, which they had prepared to use as
the Halloween lantern. They were listening to a strange
noise & shouts coming out of the pumpkin.
They thought that it was a real Halloween, but they
had never seen how ghosts & witches celebrated it in-
- At first, cut the
top & the bottom
of the pumpkin.
- Take out the
pulp from inside
the pumpkin.
- Cut two eyes, a
nose & a mouth
on one side of the
pumpkin.
- Light the can-
dle.
- Stand a candle
in the bottom of
the pumpkin.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

give you a paper-pumpkin. This pumpkin is with a sur-
prise, on the other side there is a home task for you. All
sentences in this story are mixed up, your task is to put
them in the correct order.
Our lesson is over.
Good-bye.
eyes, nose & a
mouth & says:
“Trick or treat!”
All the pupils re-
cite the poem:
“Trick-or-treat,
trick-or-treat
Give us smth.
Good to eat
Give us candy,
give us cake,
Give us cookies,
fruit & gum
Hurry up & give
us some.
You had better
do it quick, or
we’ll surely
Play a trick!”
- Halloween is a
very old holiday.
- Many centuries
ago people
thought that the
year had only 2
parts: winter &
summer.
- Samhain was
the god of the
darkness & eve-
rybody were
afraid of him.
People dressed a
scary costumes,
made pumpkin

en the spirits
from their
homes.
