и активизация лексики по теме «Традиции питания в
Британии и Америке».
Задачи:
- Расширить лингвистический кругозор учащихся.
- Развивать навыки устной речи.
- Формировать и совершенствовать практические
разговорные и коммуникативные навыки.
- Расширить словарный запас учащихся по теме путём
привлечения дополнительного материала.
- Развивать навыки аудирования.

Traditions of eating in Britain and America.
I. We are going to visit Great Britain and the USA. Some students will
live in British families, others will live in American families
So we should learn the traditions of eating of the British and the
Americans.
What words and word collocations do we need for this purpose?
II. We should speak correctly and avoid mistakes. Let’s practice the use
of articles. Look on the screen!
Home task: Do exercise on the subject “The Use of Article”
III. Divide into two groups. One group will read the first text “Meals in
England”. The other group will read the second text “Meals in
America”.
Text 1. Meals in England
The usual meals in England are breakfast, lunch and dinner.
English breakfast is usually substantial and varied (плотный и
разнообразный). For breakfast English people may have porridge
(каша) or cornflakes with milk (кукурузные хлопья), bacon and
eggs, fried mushrooms (жареные грибы), baked beans
(консервированная белая фасоль). Health-conscious people
(сознательные люди) may have muesli, fruit juice, marmalade with
toast and tea or coffee.
For lunch the English people may have a sandwich with wholemeal
bread (цельнозерновой хлеб), a banana, soup and fruit juice.
Working people (работающие люди) usually have lunch at the
canteen, in the café or at small restaurant.
Dinner is the biggest meal of the day. Many English families have
sausage (колбаса), bacon and eggs, bread and cheese, a glass of
juice, hot chocolate and fruit.
Afternoon tea is between five and six o’clock. Five o’clock tea is an
old English tradition. Friends often come for a chat (поболтать) and
they have their cup of tea, cake or biscuit.
Traditional English food is fish and chips with peas, steak and kidney
pie (пирог с мясом и почками), sausage and mashed potatoes.
Text 2. Meals in America
Most Americans eat three meals during the day: breakfast, lunch and
dinner. They have brunch on Sundays. It is a combination of
breakfast and lunch.
For breakfast they have different kinds of cereal (каши из злаков):
cornflakes (кукурузные хлопья), oatmeal (овсянка), cream of wheat
(каша из мелкодробленых зерен пшеницы); scrambled eggs
(яичница болтунья), an omelet with potatoes, or a cup of yogurt.
For lunch the Americans have pizza, potato chips, Mc Donald’s food,
sandwiches, hot dogs, hot corn (горячая кукуруза), sweet gas water,
fruit and salads.
There are many fast-food restaurants in the USA.
For dinner they have salad with vegetables. Then they like to eat
fried chicken, steaks (бифштексы), ribs (лятина), beef (говядина),
fish; baked (вареный), fried (жареный) and mashed potatoes
(картофельное пюре). The Americans never eat herring (селедка)
and seldom soup. But they may eat puree soup or cream soup (суп-
пюре).
American have traditions that is popular at weekends (выходные).
They go outside and very popular food is barbecue (шашлык) and
food in cans (еда в консервах).
The American traditional food is ice-cream, cookies, hot dogs and hot
corn. They often drink Coca-Cola.
60 per cent of the Americans are overweight (имеют лишний вес)
IV. Imagine you live in English or American family and you should plan
what you will eat for breakfast, dinner and lunch. Accomplish the
dialogue.
