ПЛАН УРОКА
1. Организационный момент
Учащиеся сидят за столами. Психологическая подготовка участников
(учитель должен настроить учащихся на то, что нельзя относиться
пассивно к уроку, нарушать регламент и этику поведения). Слова
учителя: Ladies and gentlemen! I’m glad to meet you at our meeting.
2. Фонетическая зарядка. In Britain you can often come across these
international signs (Show the tables). Have you seen any of these signs?
What do they mean? Match the sign, its meaning and Russian equivalent.
KEEP YOUR COUNTRY TIDY!
БЕРЕГИ ПРИРОДУ!
KEEP OF THE GRASS.

PUT YOUR LITTER IN THE BIN!
ПЕРЕРАБАТЫВАЙТЕ ОТХОДЫ!
KEEP DOGS UNDER CONTROL.
УВАЖАЙ ЖИЗНЬ ПРИРОДЫ.

THE COUNTRYSIDE.
ВЫГУЛ СОБАК ЗАПРЕЩЕН.
3. Do you know the difference between garbage and litter; can and tin?
Garbage and litter they are the same. But garbage it’s AE, and litter is BE.
For Russian people it’s мусор. A can and a tin (консервная банка) they are
also the same. But a can it’s AE and tin it’s BE.
4. British and American children learn a lot about the environment at school.
All of them remember the three R’s: reduce, reuse, and recycle.
Recycling can bring you extra money. It’s quite simple for anyone
who thinks about nature. But it’s also very expensive, for example recycling
old cars.
Recycling is the process of sorting and reusing waste products. It is
often used in industry. Recycling is very economical. In many cities people
think positively about sorting and reusing paper, plastic bottles and other
waste products. In many towns and villages, special bins are placed in the
streets, in which people can put all those things such as: empty cans, paper
and so on, which we used to throw away. Now we all think about helping
the Earth by recycling.
You can see different things. What can we reduce? Reuse? Recycle?
electricity (a lamp)
glass bottles
newspapers
paper
water (using water)
cartons
plastic bottles
plastic containers
cans/ tins
5. Do you know this holiday the 22
nd
of April? It’s the Earth Day when
people demonstrate their concern for a better environment. It was first held in
1970.
There are over 300 nature centers in British cities. There are a lot of
environment groups:
FRIENDS OF THE EARTH
GREENPEACE
THE WORLD WILDLIFE FUND
These groups are specially organized to help nature. Now we listen to about
these organizations.
GREENPEACE is an international environmental pressure group started in
the 1960s in Canada. It has a policy of non-violent direct actions. GREENPEACE
message is “When the last tree is cut down and the last fish killed, the last river
poisoned, then you will see that you can’t eat money!”
FRIENDS OF THE EARTH (the FOE) (Друзья земли) is an
environmental pressure group. It was founded in the UK in 1971. The aim of the
group is to protect the environment. The main concerns are air, sea, river, and land
pollution; recycling. Friends of the Earth has branches in 30 countries.
THE WORLD WILDLIFE FUND (WWF) (Всемирный фонд природы) is
an international organization founded in 1961 to raise fund for conservation. This
project includes protection of particular species, for example, the tiger and giant
panda.
6. The National Park is an organization that was set up in 1916. It also
protects areas of great natural beauty or of historic interest so that everyone can
enjoy them.
America was the first country in starting up “National Parks”, beginning
with Yellowstone in 1872. Now it is the largest US national park in the Rocky
Mountains which contains more than 3,000 geysers and hot springs (источников).
But now a dozen other parks cover a small fragment of the whole area of Western
mountains.
The USA is larger country than Britain, that’s why it has more regions to
protect. The Great Canyon, the Great Smoky Mountains, Yellowstone Park, the
Everglades in Florida are the most popular national parks in the USA.
Now we listen to about these parks.
The Great Canyon. Гранд- Каньон. The Colorado River carved
(прорезала) this deep gorge (ущелье) in the Earth’s Surface. The canyon crossed a
desert in Arizona. The Canyon is about 350 km long. It was made a national park
in 1919. It is up to 20 km across and 2 km deep. This is one of the deepest gorges
on the land.
The Everglades is one of the most interesting places. Some time ago hunters
killed alligators for their skin and birds for their meat there. That was awful. If you
visit the Everglades now, you can see a moving log. It’s probably an alligator. Be
careful. It can be dangerous. The Everglades is protected as a national park. Its
unique ecology home to water birds, snakes, alligators, wildcats, fish, cypress
trees is enjoyed by naturalists and tourists.
7. Long before 1872 William Wordsworth the great English poet, suggested
that his native Lake District should become a special place. But only in 1949 the
first national park in England and Wales was founded. Now there are ten national
parks in England and Wales which cover 9% of the land area. 90 million visitors
come to national parks every year.
The Lake District an area of lakes and mountains in the northwest of
England is the largest national park. It is popular with walkers, cyclists and people
who go boating. It is one of the most beautiful and attractive places. It has
Windermere the longest lake in England, and Scafell, the highest mountain in
England.
The Lake District was unknown until the end of the 18
th
century. Then the
works of such writers as Wordsworth and Coleridge attracted visitors to the lakes.
Now the Lake District is one of the most popular tourist places in Britain. It is a
place where you can enjoy fishing in the rivers and lakes or boating on the quiet
waters of Lakeland.
8. In Russia there are 23 national parks and 84 nature reserves. The first
nature reserve BARGUZINSKY was opened on the 29
th
of December in 1916. It is
famous by its sables. It has 2,480 square km. The Lake Baikal is the unique place.
Nature reserve is an area in which rare animals and plants are protected from
being damaged by people, e.g. by limiting the movement of people through the
area. The world’s largest is Etosha Reserve, Namibia. It’s area 99,520 sq km.
In the north-east of Moscow there is Losiny Ostrov. This national park is for
48 kinds of animals: deer, foxes; 200 kinds of birds. It was opened in 1983.
Valday is situated in Novgorodskaya region. This national park is for bears,
wolves, foxes, otters. Its lakes are Valday, Seliger.
9. We are in charge of the Planet.
Eight big cats are killed to make one fur coat.
Hunters kill about 3 million kangaroos every year.
Over 40 thousand monkeys are caught every day.
Water pollution kills about 300 dolphins every day.
A lot of dolphins are hurt by boats.
About 30 sea turtles are caught into nets every year.
10. And now answer some questions:
-What are the two aims of national parks?
(to protect and to enjoy)
-What was the first national park in the world?
(Yellowstone)
-What some of national parks in Britain and in the USA do you know?
(in Britain: The Lake District; in the USA: the Great Smoky Mountains, the Great
Canyon, the Yellowstone Park, the Everglades)
-What kinds of people visit them?
(tourists and naturalists)
-What poets wrote about the Lake District?
(William Wordsworth and Coleridge)
-What environment groups /organizations do you know?
(FRIENDS OF THE EARTH, GREENPEACE, THE WORLD WILDLIFE
FUND)
11. Land, air and water are important for flowers, trees, animals, birds, fish and
people. We should think much about helping the Earth. In Britain there are a lot of
people who think about the future of the planet. Some people take care of animals,
others take care of birds, and others are in charge of forests.
What do we do for our Planet?
What can we do for our Earth?
Возможные ответы учащихся.
We can collect paper, metal, bottles.
We can recycle paper, cans, cartons and glass.
We can recycle plastic bottles.
We can plant trees.
We can feed birds/ animals.
We can raise money to save animals.
We can organize environment groups.
We can always put garbage in a garbage bin.
We shouldn’t leave litter in the forests. We hurt animals.
We shouldn’t throw away litter. We damage nature.
We shouldn’t throw away things
We shouldn’t hurt animals.
We shouldn’t break trees. We disturb birds.
12. “To hurt the Earth is to hurt yourself”. So some our girls have prepared the
signs to protect our Planet.
Paint pictures, not a rock.
We shouldn’t draw or paint on the trees.
Do not throw garbage in water.
We cause water pollution. Be a friend to fish. It’s their home.
Do not pollute the air.
We change the climate.
Protect wildlife plants and trees.
Plant a tree to make homes for birds and small animals. Leave wild flowers for
others to enjoy.
Do not spoil the gardens do not leave litter.
Leave the place clean.
Stop cutting down the trees.
Many trees are cut down for building. There are no trees our health is damaged.
Trees give us clean air. When the forests disappear many animals are disturbed.

14. Подведение итогов. Today we have been speaking about WE ARE IN
CHARGE OF THE PLANET. Will you summarize our conversation?
