The USA is made up of fifty states and one independent district – the district of Columbia. The DC is the territory of national capital of the USA with its own laws and regulations. This place was chosen by the first American president George Washington. The place was called the district of Columbia in honor of Columbus, the discover of America, and the capital got the name of Washington after the name of its founder.   Washington is one of the most magnificent and unusual cities in the USA. In the centre of it rises the huge dome of the Capitol – a big white dome standing in a circle of pillars. It’s rather easy to get lost in this huge building, full of paintings and statues. Not far from the Capitol is the library of Congress, the largest in US.
