The Adjective (Имя прилагательное)

• Именем прилагательным (The Adjective) называется часть речи, которая обозначает признак предмета и отвечает на вопрос What? Какой?
• Example: red, good, interesting, English

Имена прилагательные образуют две степени сравнения:

• Сравнительную (The Comparative Degree)
• Превосходную (The Superlative Degree)
• Основная форма прилагательного не выражает сравнения и называется положительной степенью (The Positive Degree)

Односложные прилагательные:

• warm – warmer – the warmest
• cold – colder – the coldest
• long – longer – the longest
• kind – kinder – the kindest
• tall – taller – the tallest
• small- smaller – the smallest

Прилагательное оканчивающееся на немое -е:

• nice – nicer – the nicest
• brave – braver – the bravest
• large – larger – the largest
• fine – finer – the finest

Прилагательное оканчивающееся на согласную с предшествующим кратким гласным звуком:

• big – bigger – the biggest
• hot – hotter – the hottest
• slim – slimmer – the slimmest
• fat – fatter - the fattest
• wet – wetter – the wettest

Прилагательное оканчивающееся на -y с предшествующей согласной:

• happy – happier – the happiest
• funny – funnier – the funniest
• merry – merrier – the merriest
• angry- angrier – the angriest
• dirty – dirtier – the dirtiest

Большинство двусложных и многосложные прилагательные

• interesting – more interesting – the most interesting
• curious – more curious – the most curious
• beautiful – more beautiful – the most beautiful
• wonderful – more wonderful – the most wonderful
• useful – more useful – the most useful

Исключения:

• good – better – the best
• bad – worse – the worst
• many/much – more – the most
• little – less – the least

The Positive Degree

• I’m not angry.
• The elephant is very big.
• Houses are very tall in the city.

The Comparative Degree

• Today is colder than yesterday.
• My sister gets better marks than me.
• Tim is taller than Tom.

The Superlative Degree The 22nd of June is the longest day in a year. Alex is the best pupil in our class. This is the most interesting book. Complete the sentences: 1. In the city rivers are … than in the country. (dirty) 2. Max is … than Bob. (happy) 3. Russia is … country. (large) 4. What’s … day for you? (bad) 5. I like apples … than oranges. (many) 6.
