Discover American English
Цели:
Образовательная: Познакомить учащихся с разновидностями английского языка;
объяснить грамматические, лексические, фонетические и орфографические различия.
Развивающая: Развить навыки и умения устной речи, аудирования, чтения и письма.
Воспитательная: Расширить кругозор, привить интерес к американской и британской
культуре, поддержать интерес к учению.
Stages:

II. Warm-up activities.
Questions about student’s native language:
1. Are there big differences in the way people speak your language?
2. Are there some words that are only used in certain places?
3. What differences in pronunciation are there?
Questions about English language:
1. Why English is becoming so important?
2. Can you tell the difference between British English and American English?
III. Listening. The English language.
Ex.1. Choose the answer you think is correct.
1. How many people speak English in the world?

2. How many words are there in the English language

Now listen to someone talking about English and find out if you were right.
IV. American English.
Now give some examples of differences between American English and British
English. The differences can be in vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and spelling.

Grammar differences.
American and British English sometimes use different prepositions.
1. Monday through Friday.
Monday to Friday
2. It’s five after nine.
It’s five past nine.
Pronunciation differences.
“r” is often not pronounced in British English. It is always pronounced in American
English.
e.g. car[ka:r] A.E
car [ka:] B.E.
