Aims: By the end of the lesson the pupils will be able
- to choose information from the text to answer the questions and do the test about
vegetarians.
- to discuss the facts about diet.
- to classify pros and cons of diet.
Equipment: the cards with the word combinations about diet, the cards with the text
“Vegetarians”, the textbook, the activity book, the test made with the help of the
computer programm “Excel”.

Pre-reading
- There are different reasons why people
follow a diet: to keep healthy, to keep fit
and some others. Let’s read the text about
one type of a diet. Read the title of the text
and answer the question “What type of a
diet is this text about?”
While-reading
- Read the text and find out the reasons
why people choose this way of life.
Post-reading
- Can you name the reasons why people
become vegetarians?
- And now you’ll have a test to check your
understanding of this text.

- Not only food is important for people’s
health. We must not forget about physical
activity. Let’s do exercises.

main sentences which help you to
understand what actions were described.

- Fill in the appropriate verbs to complete
the statements.

- Read the text again and answer the
question.

- Is it good or bad to be vegetarians?
Why do you think so? (It is good for our
health to be vegetarians but for some
people especially men it is very difficult.)
- You have the cards with the word
combinations. Try to divide them into two
columns: pros and cons of a diet.
While-writing
- Make the table in your copybooks and fill
the word combinations in it.
Post-writing
- Answer the questions. What are good
points of a diet? (to keep fit, to be healthy,
to look wonderful, to eat more vegetables
and fruits, to be thin and beautiful, not to
overeat). What are bad points of a diet?
(not balanced, to cause health problems, to
eat a variety of food, to have anaemia)
Summing-up activity
Now you know good and bad points of
a diet. What does it depend on? How do
you think? (It depends on the person and
his health if a man follows a diet or not.)
