• The Active Voice (активный залог)
Mother opens the door. Мама открывает дверь. (подлежащее является главным действующим лицом в предложении)

• The Passive Voice (страдательный залог)
The door is opened by mother. Дверь открывается мамой. (подлежащее не является действующим лицом)

Построение предложений. При изменении глагола из действительного залога в страдательный залог меняется вся конструкция предложения: Предлог by. Англичане предпочитают употреблять пассивную форму глагола в тех случаях, когда более важен объект действия, чем тот, кто это действие совершает. В тех случаях, когда важно, кто (или что) совершил (совершило) действие, используется предлог by. St. Paul’s Cathedral was built by Sir Christopher Wren.
