Procedure
I. Greeting (2 min.):
T.: Good morning, guests! Good morning, guys! We are glad to see you at our
open class of the English language. How are you doing? Are you ready to work
hard today? It is just the very thing I’d like to hear from you! And now tell me
please- What date is it today? And what day is it today I wonder? Right you are.
Let’s start our lesson.
II. Targeting (1 min.):
T.: The theme of our lesson today runs as following “Is it easy to be a teenager?
We will speak about different sides of teenagers’ life, concerns and problems you
have. We will speak about teenage free-time activities. We will act out
conversations. We’ll try to give advice how to overcome difficulties and to survive
nowadays. First, let’s recollect the hobbies that we discussed 2 or 3 lessons ago.
Look at the screen.
III. Warming-up (7 min.):
1. Revising hobbies looking at the pictures;
2. Brainstorming.
3. Phonetic drill: revision and practice the pronunciation of the words of the
previous lesson;
4. Speaking activity: Who is a teenager? What is it like to be a teenager? What
problems do teenagers face?
IV. Checking the homework (10 min.):
Before checking your homework I want you to revise the table that contains the
facts of 1 day from the life of American teens. So look at the screen and read the
information… It’s time to present your projects. Your task was to find out about
teenage problems in our country. You have done it in pairs, i.e. in groups of two.
Group 1 presents a slide-show;
Group 2 presents a poster.
V. Presentation of new lexical units: average, steady, in fact, part-time job,
queue, pocket money, religion, filling, non-smoker (12 min.)
1. Studying the new words: average - средний, steady - постоянный, in
fact - действительно, part-time job временная работа, queue -
очередь, pocket money карманные деньги, religion - религия, filling
зубная пломба, non-smoker некурящий.
This time we shall read the text and get acquainted with new facts and figures
about British teens. First of all, we need to study the unfamiliar words from this
text. Look at the board and repeat after me. Now open your textbooks at page 198
and find the sentences with these words in the text “British Teenagers”. Read them
and translate.
2. Individual work: dividing the text into 4 passages and reading them
loudly by the wall;
3. Pair work: retelling each other their passages and writing down the main
facts they have read and heard about;
4. Exchanging the partners and sharing the whole information;
5. Group-work: summarizing the facts, preparing a poster and presenting
their work.
VI. Drilling (8 min.):
1. Revision of the grammar (much/many): working with the cards;
2. Role-playing the press-conference:
We are going to play a little. Imagine that we are at the press-conference.
One of you will be an interviewee, i.e. a person who answers the journalists’
questions. The rest will be journalists. You are to ask questions about British
teenagers. The interviewee must be ready to answer them. Is everything clear?
3. Pair-work: asking each other the questions about the teens of
Kazakhstan.

We have worked a lot today. So let’s summarize and tell what new things have we
learnt at this lesson? Did you like the lesson? What do you feel now?

British Teenagers
The average British teenager watches a lot of television (19,5 hours a
week).
A lot of parents think teenagers are lazy. But in fact 57 % get up before
7.30 a.m. The average British teenager sleeps for only 8 hours 45 minutes a night.
There isn’t a queue outside the bathroom of the average British family.
Not many teenagers (only 18%) have a bath or a shower in the morning. In fact
they only have a bath or a shower four times a week.
A lot of British teenagers have a steady girlfriend or boyfriend (37%). But
20% never go out with a person of the opposite sex.
Young people in Britain don’t get much pocket money (only 2 pound and
95 pence a week on average). But many of them have a part-time job. There
aren’t many cinemas left in Britain today because a lot of people prefer to watch
films on television or on video. Only 10 % of British teenagers go to the cinema
once a month or more.
Not many British teenagers smoke 76% of girls and 78% of boys are non-
smokers.
There are a lot of churches and a lot of different religions in Britain, but
not many young people (only 11%) go to church regularly.
A lot of girls brush their teeth twice a day or more (78% in fact). Not many
boys brush their teeth often (only 57%). The result? Boys have a lot more fillings
(one-third more) than girls.
