CRASY HORSE MEMORIAL THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA SOUTH DAKOTA KORCZAK ZIOLKOWSKI AND HIS WIFE ROOT In 1939 representatives of the Indian Tribe SIU asked the sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski to immortalize their legendary CHIEF CRASY HORSE in Black Hills. The sculptor began cutting the Memorial in1947. He had been working almost 50 years up to his death but he had not managed to finish the Memorial. Korczak Ziolkowski died in 1982. In the mountains of BLACK HILLS . The author planned to cut CRASY HORSE MEMORIAL in the rock of BLACK HILLS. Author’s Project KORCZAK ZIOLKOWSKI planned his CRASY HORSE MEMORIAL to be one of the most grandiose sculptures in the World cut in the rock. 195 m. wide 172 m. high

By 1998 his relatives (sons, nephews )

had cut only the face of the CHIEF.

After Korczak Ziolkowski’s death his wife Root ,

their 10 children and grandchildren continue

this work.

Sceptics doubt much, Root is 85 but Danny

Sanford ( a businessman) gave up 10 mln. $

for this Project.

Root does everything though continues to live

in a very modest house.

She believes that Crazy Horse Memorial will

be finished in 30 years.

Rushmor Mountain.
