Queen Victoria

Princess Alexandrina Victoria was not only born to be Queen of England: she was conceived to be Queen.

Queen Victoria came to the throne as a young woman in 1837 .

She ruled for the longest period in the English history for 64 years.

Marriage of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert

They were married on 10 February 1840, in the Chapel Royal of St. James's Palace, London.

After their wedding she wrote in her diary:

I NEVER, NEVER spent such an evening!!! MY DEAREST DEAREST DEAR Albert ... his gave me feelings of heavenly love & happiness I never could have hoped to have felt before! His beauty, his sweetness & gentleness – really how can I ever be thankful enough to have such a Husband! Oh! This was the happiest day of my life.”

Albert became an important political adviser as well as the Queen's companion.

Victoria and Prince Albert

Victoria was happy with her husband and nine children.

Albert died at 10:50 p.m. on 14 December 1861 in the Blue Room at Windsor Castle, in the presence of the Queen and five of their nine children.
