Цели и задачи:
1) проконтролировать уровень сформированности речевых умений и
навыков по теме «Holidays»;
2) развивать умения выделять главное, развивать мышление, память,
самостоятельность, совершенствовать навыки связной речи, логическое
мышление;
3)формирование способности самостоятельно оценивать себя в разных видах
деятельности и работать в группах.
Учебные пособия: открытки, таблица, картинки.
Ход урока.
1. Good morning!
How are you? - Fine, thanks.
And you? -Fine, thank you.
The theme of our lesson is “Holidays”. Some lessons ago we spoke about different
holidays in Russia and in Great Britain. But today I’d like you to tell me
everything you know about them.
2. There are many holidays in the world. Not only the Russian but also the British
have holidays. Everybody likes holidays because we don’t go to work, we stay at
home, watch TV, listen to music. We visit our friends and relatives. We make
calls. Before the holidays we go shopping, buy tasty food, presents. What about
you? Do you like holidays?
P: -Yes, I do.
T: - And you?
P: - Yes, I do.
T: -What holidays do you know?
P: -I know …..
T: -Which of these holidays do we celebrate in Russia?
P: -We celebrate……..in Russia.
T: -Thank you, well.
3. a) Let’s remember how we prepare for holidays? Open your books at page 150,
ex. 19.Look through this exercise and answer the following question: What do we
do before holidays?
T: -Do you go shopping?
P: -Yes, I go shopping.
T: -Do you buy presents?
P: - ….
T: -Do you call your friends?
P: -….
T: -Do you send postcards?
P: -….
T: - Do you visit your friends and relatives?
b) What else comes to your mind when you think about holidays?
P: -When I think of holidays, I think about presents, clothes, food and
entertainment.
T: -Good. And now look at this scheme [ski:m] and answer my questions!
-How do we prepare for holidays?
-What do we buy in the shop? (Food)
-What do we give to your relatives and friends on holidays? (Presents)
-What do you wear on holidays?
-What do you do on holidays?
4. On holidays we always buy presents for our friends and relatives. When we get
presents we should thank our friends for a present. How can we do it? Ex. 20, p.
150. Here are some expressions. Decide how you would thank them for a present.
P: – What a nice present!
P: – Thank you very much!
P: – It’s very nice of you!
T: - Which expressions would you never use?
P: - I have already had such a dog.
T: - Why?
P: - It’s impolite.
5. Not only Russian but also British have different holidays. What British Holidays
do you know?
P: - I know…..
T: - What else?
P: - …
T: - Now I’d like you to listen to some pieces of texts about British holidays. Here
are some new words that you will hear while listening to the text.

stockings
guess
hide
look for
Your task is to guess a name of the holiday. Is it clear?
1. On this day children help at home and give or send cards and presents. Mothers
like this holiday.(Mother’s day)
2. On this day people usually visit their friends. There is a lot of dancing and
eating. People bring a piece of coal for good luck. (New Year’s Day)
3. On this day people send cards to their friends and relatives. People put trees in
their rooms and decorate them with toys and colored lights. Children find
presents in their stockings. (Christmas)
4. People send cards to people they love. They should not write their names on the
cards. Those who get them must guess who sent them. (St. Valentine’s Day)
5. On this day children eat chocolate eggs. Sometimes parents hide eggs in the
house or in the garden and children look for them.(Easter)
T: - So I begin to read once again.
T: - Let’s check up! The first text is about….
T: - Let’s have a rest and do exercises! (Pause for some exercises)
6. Let’s read some texts about British holidays. I hope you will get new
information about it. Ex.21. Look at postcards and match the postcards with the
text about holidays. I give you one minute to look through the texts.
T: - Well, you have read the texts about British holidays. And now answer my
questions: What do you know about St. Valentine’s Day? Easter? How do the
British celebrate Christmas? New Year? Mother’s day?
7. We have discussed about different holidays in Russia and in Britain. Now
I’ll give you different postcards and you should tell us as much information
as you can about these holidays.
T: - New Year’s Day is for your group.
T: - Let’s tell us about your holidays.
P: - …
T: - Your topics are great!
8. And now choose one of the holidays and set a riddle about it. You should
tell us what people do on this holiday, what presents they give, but do not
name this holiday. The other pupils should guess it. So, I give you one
minute. Begin to work.
