1.Colors make a difference in our life…
Учитель: Our lives are filled with colors from the start,
And Red is the love that comes from our hearts.
Blue is the sadness that drips from our eyes,
But Black is the evil that makes us tell lies.
Green is the shade of jealousy and rage,
And Grey is the hair that comes with old age.
Purple is the mood most misunderstood,
But White is the color that makes us feel good.
Life is full of meaningful colors…They can symbolize ways of feelings; paint our
world or represent people’s cultural creativity. In all cultures, different colors have
different associations. Today the colors and I are getting together to teach you some
English idioms, my dear colleagues and students at the same time. Idioms are
accepted as part of everyday speech. Native speakers use them frequently in their
everyday life. I bet you’ve never been taught by the colors before!
Слайд 2. Color Idioms
Учитель:Let’s take the color red. It’s my favorite one. Red can be positive but also
negative. It can represent Strength, Power, Energy, Love, Fire, but it can also
emanate Hate, Pain, Anger, Danger, Attention, and Aggressiveness. Oh, sorry, I’ve
nearly forgotten. We, the teachers of English are used to begin our lessons in such a
way. Could you tell me, please, what day it is today?
Участник:The 15th of January.
Учитель:Well done! Who can add anything else?
Участник:I’ve heard today is the birthday of Wikipedia.
Учитель:Great! Be active, guys!
Участник:The contest ‘Teacher of the year’ is being held today.
Учитель: Fantastic. It’s a remarkable day. Let the best teacher win!
Участник:Today is Vera Pavlovna’s jubilee.
Слайд 3. A RED LETTER DAY
Учитель:Oh yes! It’s a day of great importance! Its A RED LETTER DAY! In
English, if you speak about a day, when something important occurs, you may call it
A RED LETTER DAY.
Слайд 4. TO PAINT THE TOWN RED
And, after this activity, I hope we’ll celebrate this event with my colleagues at the
cafe. We’ll PAINT THE TOWN RED. In English, if you go out to celebrate
something, you can say I’LL PAINT THE TOWN RED’. Now back to our lesson.
Well, guys, do you like your job?
Участник:Oh, sure.
Слайд 5. RED TAPE
Учитель:So, do I. I like English. I love my school and my students. Only RED TAPE
makes me SEE RED, LIKE A RED RAG TO A BULL (красная лента в руках).
Does anybody guess what RED TAPE means?
Ответы участников.
Слайд 6. SEE RED, LIKE A RED RAG TO A BULL
Учитель: It’s bureaucratic paperwork. In English, if something makes somebody
angry, we say it’s LIKE A RED RAG TO A BULL or it makes somebody SEE RED.
Go ahead. Let’s take the color blue. It is the coolest color - the color of the sky,
ocean, sleep, twilight. Blue is the calming color. In the US and UK it is very common
for uniforms to be blue worn by sailors, police and workers. By the way, do you like
to wear a school uniform?
Участник:Yes, I do. /No, I don't.
Учитель:Do you like to do homework?
Участник:No, I don’t.
Слайд 7. ONCE IN A BLUE MOON
Учитель:Neither do my students. I say to them Do your homework. Do your
homework.’ In fact, they do it ONCE IN A BLUE MOON. In English, if things
happen extremely rarely, we can say they happen ONCE IN A BLUE MOON. ‘Do
your homework.’ I say it until I’m BLUE IN THE FACE.
Слайд 8. TO BE BLUE IN THE FACE
In English, if we say something until we are blue in the face; we waste time and
effort because we won’t get any results.
Слайд 9. TO FEEL BLUE
So, I’m FEELING BLUE. It means I’m feeling unhappy.
Участник:I did my home assignment.
Слайд 10. A BOLT FROM THE BLUE
Учитель:It’s completely unexpected. In fact, it’s come as A BOLT FROM THE
BLUE! (звуки грома) In English if something comes as a complete surprise we can
say it’s A BOLT FROM THE BLUE. (звуки грома, дождя) Oh no, clouds. Looks
like rain. For most of the people it is boring weather. Do you like rain?
Участник: Yes, I do. /No, I don’t. I love sunny days.
Учитель:For me there is no bad weather. I love gardening on sunny days. At the
same time rainy days give me the chance of having rest, dreaming, arranging a sleep-
over, watching a movie and what not!
Слайд 11. EVERY CLOUD HAS A SILVER LINING
EVERY CLOUD HAS A SILVER LINING. In English it means that there is a
positive side to every unpleasant situation.
You are really good students and colleagues. I hope you won’t judge me very strictly.
You’re wonderful. And your English is PERFECT. No, no, it is MAGNIFICENT. In
English, we call someone who speaks in such a pleasant way and it can make other
people do things for him a silver-tongued.
Слайд 12.TO BE SILVER-TONGUED

But at the same time they are so kind and helpful, obedient and active, intelligent and
sporty.
Слайд 13.TO BE AS GOOD AS GOLD/TO HAVE A HEART OF GOLD
In short, they are AS GOOD AS GOLD. THEY’VE GOT A HEART OF GOLD. In

AS GOLD AND THEY’VE GOT A HEART OF GOLD.
