I spend a lot of time at home. I have a lot of friends. Для того чтобы назвать большое количество предметов, которые можно посчитать, следует использовать количественные местоимения many/a lot of/lots of (много). Для того чтобы назвать большое количество чего-либо, что нельзя посчитать, используется much/a lot of. Почти нет никакой разницы между lots of и a lot of. Оба этих выражения могут использоваться с исчисляемыми и неисчисляемыми существительными. I have a few friends. I have a little time. A few используется с существительными во множественном числе. A little используется с неисчисляемыми существительными. I‘ve got little bread and that’s why I have to go to the baker’s. Для малого и недостаточного количества чего-либо, что нельзя посчитать, используется little (мало). Для того чтобы назвать небольшое и недостаточное для чего-либо количество исчисляемых предметов, следует использовать количественное местоимение few (мало).
