On April 3, 1973 the first cell phone call was made. The caller was naturally, Dr.Cooper himself. The receiver was Joel Angel, the research head at AT&T’s Bell Labs and Dr. Cooper’s rival. A DRAMATIC CHANGE TO THE COMMUNICATION INDUSTRY Mobile phones are small and easy to carry. They are necessary for our everyday lives. OLD & NEW A man is talking on the mobile phone while standing near a conventional telephone box? Which stands empty. Enabling technology for mobile phones was first developed in the 1940s but it was not until the mid 1980s that they became widely available. By 2011 it was estimated in the UK that more calls were made using the mobile phones than wired devices. We should all have freedom to use our mobiles where and when we like Advantages Mobile phones are a good invention. You don’t need to be near a public phone. If you have a mobile phone with you all the time, you can save lives, as they are essential in emergencies and accidents. We can also use our mobile phones in operating smart homes. Mobile phones make a big difference to people’s lives Young people use their phones not only for communication but for entertainment as well- listening to music, playing games, watching films, taking photos, using GPS, surfing the Internet, etc. They never get bored with their phones! DISADVANTAGES There are times when using a mobile phone can create problems for other people. They can actually cause accidents if they use their phones when they are driving. What’s more, in public places like cinemas, hospitals or schools, phones can disturb other people. They can also interfere with other technology, for example inside a plane or hospitals. This can be dangerous. Sometimes mobile phones can cause different illnesses TEXTING We often use abbreviations instead of writing the complete word- taking away vowels from the word – PLS=please or we replace words with symbols -@=at or numbers- L8R=later. TEXTING (2) Remember: It is not correct to use these abbreviations in other types of writing. We can also use emoticons (смайлики)in text messages to show emotions. What is Fred thinking about?(Buying a new mobile? Let’s help him choose one!) Which mobile would you choose? Thank you for your attention! The end!
