T: Dear pupils, I'm glad to see you again. We are going to speak about the most mysterious
country of the world. I suppose while looking at the pictures you’ll guess what country we’ll
visit.
What can you see in the pictures?
(The teacher shows some pictures on the smart board- Kangaroo, aborigines…)
T: Pupils, have you guessed what country it is? Certainly you're right, it’s Australia.

Miss Bell (Вероника)
Pupils
My name is Miss Bell. I'm your teacher of
geography.
Answer my questions, please. What do you know
about Australia?
Can you add anything?
What oceans is Australia washed by?
Who discovered Australia?
Дз.Давид:It is the world's largest island and its
smallest continent. The continent is south of the
Equator. Much of the land is a useless desert.
Great deserts cover nearly 2,000,000 square
kilometers. Most of the continent is sunny most
of the year. Its population is very small for such
a huge country. Many people live far away from
towns in the outback. The people suffer from
limited fresh water.
Рената:The country consists of 6 (six) states
and 2 (two) territories. 16 million people live in
Australia. The capital is Canberra. The official
language is English. There are 5 (five) big cities
in Australia: Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide,
Perth and Brisbane. These cities are also the
country's main ports.
Фариза: Australia is a continent-island washed
by the Indian and the Pacific Oceans.
Миша:Captain James Cook discovered
Australia in 1770. He was sent to discover the
huge land that many people believed was south
of the equator. He landed south of present day
Sydney in New South Wales. He claimed this
part of the land for the King of England.
Very good, thank you. Please explain the meaning
of the sentence: huge areas of land are so dry that
they are uninhabited.
Ямила:Australia is situated south of Asia,
between the Pacific and the Indian Oceans.
Australia is the world's driest continent. Huge
areas of land are so dry that they are
uninhabited.
What is Australia rich in?
Why is Australia called “Upside down country”?
Туаев:Australia is rich in minerals, which are
mined in different parts of the country. Australia
is an important producer and exporter of
primary products: wool, meat, sugar, coal, iron,
copper, lead, gold and so on. Agriculture is the
main occupation in the country. Wheat is grown
in the south.
Герасименко:Sometimes Australia is called
“upside down world”. Because Australia lies in
the Southern Hemisphere, where winter comes
in July and summer begins in December. During
the Christmas holidays people often sunbathe on
the beach or swim and surf in the ocean.
Good for you! Thank you children! And now
let’s watch the video about Australia.
Listening Comprehension. Watching the Video (3 minutes)
