Тема урока: “Nobody wears things like that!” (слайд №1)
Цели урока:
1. Знакомство с отрывком из автобиографического произведения Roald Dahl Boy, с
традиционной школьной формой для мальчиков британской школы Eaton.
2. Развитие умения читать с целью извлечения конкретной информации и с полным
пониманием содержания, развитие навыков смыслового чтения, умения понимать
отношение автора к событиям, его намерение, эмоциональный тон произведения.
3. Совершенствовать грамматические навыки чтения (Past Passive)
4. Формирование уважительного отношения к традициям.
Ход урока.
I. Организационный момент.
Warming up activity.
Good morning! Today we are having a reading lesson. Do you like reading? Who is
your favourite author? What English writers do you know?
II. Библиографическая справка о Роальде Дале. (Слайд №2)
Today we are working with the extract from the autobiographical work “Boy”. And now some
words about Roald Dahl-the author of this book.
Roald Dahl (13 September 1916 – 23 November 1990) was a British novelist, short story writer,
poet and screenwriter .
Born in Wales to Norwegian parents, Dahl served in the Royal Air Force during World War II.
He rose to prominence in the 1940s with works for both children and adults and became one of
the world's best-selling authors. He has been referred to as "one of the greatest storytellers for
children of the 20th century". Among his awards for contribution to literature, he received the
World Fantasy Award Life Achievement in 1983, and Children's Author of the Year from
the British Books Award in 1990. In 2008 The Times placed Dahl 16th on its list of "The 50
greatest British Writers since 1945".

Dahl's short stories are known for their unexpected endings and his children's books for their
unsentimental, often very dark humor. His works include James and the Giant Peach, Charly
and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda,The Witches ,Fantastic Mr Fox, The Twits ,George’s
Marvellous Medicine and The BFG.

Boy: Tales of Childhood (1984) is the first autobiographical book by Roald Dahl. It describes
his life from birth until leaving school, focusing on living conditions in Britain in the 1920s and
1930s, the public school system at the time, and how his childhood experiences led him to
writing as a career. It ends with his first job, working for Royal Dutch Sell. His autobiography
continues in the book Going Solo.
III. Работа с отрывком из произведения “Boy”
1. Look at the picture, read the captions and guess what occasion Roald Dahl got dressed
for? (Слайд №5)
Учащиеся читают подписи-выдержки из текста и на их основании делают
предположения.
2. Look at the pictures and guess the meaning of the following words.
Данное упражнение направлено на снятие лексических трудностей при чтении
текста. (Слайд №6)
3. Write down which pieces of clothing were parts of Roald Dahl’s uniform.
Чтение текста упражнения 1/3 стр. 165-166 с целью поиска конкретной информации.
Учащиеся читают про себя текст и выбирают (выписывают) названия предметов
одежды, из которых состояла одежда Роулда Дала. Проверка предусмотрена в форме
самоконтроля (Слайд №7)
Выписанные слова: a detachable white butterfly collar, trousers with the grey pin-
striped lines and the braces, a black waistcoat with twelve buttons and two little waistcoat
pockets on either side, one above the other, a jacket, a stiff wide-brimmed straw hat with
a blue and black band around it
4. How was Roald getting dressed? Find the English equivalents of the following words.
Упражнение 1/4 стр 166. Подбор эквивалентов из текста. Проверка предусмотрена в
форме самоконтроля (Слайд №8)
Выписанные эквиваленты: tied a tie using an ordinary tie-knot, buttoned the braces on
to the trousers, adjusted the braces, laced shoes, did up the buttons, did up the button, put
it on and did my best to look dignified.
5. Read out from the story the words that help to describe the boy’s clothes. What emotions
do these words show?
Упражнение 1/6 стр 166.
This amazing fancy dress, the most ridiculous garment, eccentric clothes, crazy uniform.
Далее учащиеся приходят к выводу, что данные эпитеты использованы с целью
подчеркнуть эмоциональное состояние автора (I remember how shocked I was when I
sawthe outfit I was expected to wear). Кроме того, они демонстрируют отношение его
матери к школьной форме, принятой в частных школах Британии того времени.
III Подведение итогов урока
You see boys and girls that our time is out. We have done a good job. I think the extract
from Roald Dahl’s book made an impression on you. And I hope that after the lesson you
will go to our school library and take there this marvelous book to read it at home.
