Тема: «Прогресс и развитие»
научить рассуждать о преимуществах и недостатках научно-технического прогресса
1)развитие речевых умений на основе творческого применения усвоенного ранее лексико-
грамматического материала в новых ситуациях общения; сопутствующая задача - скрытый контроль уровня
cформированности речевых умений.
2) развитие способности осуществлять продуктивные речевые действия - к подбору речевых
средств, адекватных цели и ситуации, к импровизации, к планированию своего высказывания,
3)воспитание творческого потенциала личности учащегося, культуры общения во время работы в
микро группах, самостоятельности.
Мультимедийное оборудование, рабочие листы, тексты.
I. Организационная часть
T: Good morning, dear friends! Glad to see you! How are you? Ready? Go!
II. Warm -up activities Актуализация. Речевая зарядка.
T: The theme of our lesson is “Progress and Development”.
But let’s think what progress is. Let’s make a cluster. What comes into your mind when you hear the word
PP: Development, changes, inventions, discoveries, movement, moving forward, improvement…
T: To sum it up, progress is development, improvement.
People always invent new things. Why? Why do people invent more and more new things?
PP: to make our life easier, more comfortable, more interesting.
III. Обозначение проблемы
All these inventions are very useful. But are all of them harmless? What do you think?
Today we’ll discuss the question “Progress… A Friend or an Enemy?

Can you name some inventions, devices which make our life easier, more comfortable, more interesting?
Look at the list of inventions. Are there any new words that you don’t know? You can ask me about them.

V. Развитие речевых умений
So technology has become such a big part of our life that existing without it now seems impossible. But every
medal has two sides. Some people say some of these things can be harmful for our health.
Let’s discuss advantages and disadvantages of two most popular inventions : computers and mobiles. You
are to work in pairs. You’ll read short texts. They will help you to think of pluses and minuses of either a computer
or a mobile. You should fill in the table. Then one of you will speak about advantages and the other about
disadvantages using the structures on your sheets of paper. You have 4-5 minutes to do the task.
Discussing in pairs.
Now let’s make a conclusion. What do you personally think of the progress?
Is it a friend or an enemy?
VI. Role play.
You know that many years ago people lived without all these inventions. Now imagine the life in the 18
Time machine travelling. Let’s play the roles. The 1
group will play the roles of people of the 18
century and
the 2
group will be people of the 21st century. Your task is to prove that modern life is better. And your task is
to prove your life is better. Use the structures:
21st century: If you had a …, you would (be able to)…
18th century: If you didn’t have a …, you would (be able to)…
You have 2-3 minutes to discuss it in your groups.
VII. Подведение итогов
We know that we will never return to the life which people lived centuries ago because there is no way back. As
the years go forward our life becomes faster, a lot of new things appear, our mind develops and it cannot stop.
May be we depend on the progress/ we depend on all these things. Progress becomes more and more rapidly.
Sometimes we become slaves of this comfortable life. Do you agree with me? Well… are you a host or a slave of
the progress?
People invent more and more things to make our life more comfortable. Some inventions are very unusual. Can
you guess what it is?
Would you like to have that?
In conclusion, I must say that progress can be destroying or creating. Which would you like to have?
This one is the progress of the past and that one the progress of the future. Future depends on you!
