The rights of children. Lesson1
Aim :to meet The United Nations Convention on the rights of the child.
Objects: 1. To introduce the lexics: non-discrimination, at birth, view, protection, privacy, health care,
education, leisure, development, particular, to reduce, death, childhood, whatever , race, background,
available, skill, cruelty, abuse, interfere with.
2.to train reading for detail and specific information.
3 . to develop the skill . to express views
Steps.
1.Fonetic warm up.
T: Look at the board and read out the words with the sounds [I],[e],[ju:],[a:], [ɔ: ], [ɛə] ,[æ]
To introduce the lexics: non-discrimination, at birth, view, protection, privacy, health care, education,
leisure, development, particular, to reduce, death, childhood, whatever , race, background, available, skill,
cruelty, abuse, interfere with.
-Read one by one.
-Find out the verbs, nouns, adjectives.
-Guess out the meaning of the words.
2. Introduction the meaning of unguessed out of the words.
( teacher reports the definitions of them)
3. Work into 3 groups.
-Find the word on the meaning and read it. Уменьшить
Pupil goes to the board and take the cards with the words.( every student have to get the cards: if a pupil
doesn’t know a meaning of the words the teacher reports it to him.)
- Keep* in mind the meaning of the word and be ready to move clock-wise (по часовой стрелке) making the
pupils change their seats out of the groups:
4. Brainstorm
- Lean your rights in the ex.2, on p.104 and tell what rights you have expressing it in two ways:

5. Reading for detail
- Read and translate the explanation of the articles of the Convention ( every student gets particular
explanation)
- Keep* in mind the meaning of the explanation and be ready to move clock-wise (по часовой стрелке)

6.Matching the explanation with article of the Convention
T. What does the main right the Convention proclaim?
P1. The Convention proclaims the right to get education. Articles 28 and 29 say that children have the right
to education and development. It means that every child can go to school. The right to education also
includes that education must be free up to the primary level at least.
T. What do you think about article 24?
P2. Article 24 says that children have the right to health and health care. In my opinion it is very important
for us.
T. What will the convent bring children?
P3. The Convent is great and will bring children more rights. For the first time children have a document
with which to work together on their problems.
T. Does the Convention interest you?
P4. It doesn’t interest me. I can’t agree that it can give children real rights.
P5 It seems to me that Convention is very important because it solves the biggest problems that concern
young people.

Work out your own convention for your groups basing oneself upon the rights of the Convention
