Objectives: by the end of the lesson students will be able to
practice their listening, reading, writing and speaking skills on the theme “health”
learn about heart functions and ways of keeping healthy.
develop their critical thinking
identify the 5 five basic food groups
analyze information and express their ideas
create healthy menu.
Skills: Reading, Speaking, Listening, Writing
Time: 90 minutes
Materials provided: interactive board, internet, computer, Power Point presentation on the theme “Keeping healthy”, KWL sheets, sheets
with four topics: doing exercises; eating healthy; drinking water and the heart, paper flipcharts, pictures of food, markers and matching cards.

Teacher creates friendly atmosphere by whispering 4 students
“You are great”, 4 students “You are cool”, 4 students “You
are super”, 4 students “You are excellent”. Then asks them to
create teams, by asking questions.
There must be 4 teams:
“Super”
“Excellent”
“Great”
“Cool”
Students remember the teacher’s words and then
create teams by asking questions each other. For
example:
- Are you super?
- No, I’m great!
- Are you cool?
- Yes, I am.
Students divide into 4 groups:

Teacher introduces the theme of the lesson “Today we are
going to learn about the ways of keeping healthy”
Teacher gives the KWL sheets to the students and asks them to

Students answer the questions by telling about their

Teacher asks students of each team to count from 1 to 4 and
divide into 4 groups of experts.
Teacher gives each group the sheets with the topic.
Group # 1: Doing exercises
Group # 2: Eating healthy food
Group # 3: Drinking Water and Milk
Group # 4: The heart
Teacher asks health experts to return to their own groups so
that every team will have experts from all 4 groups. Then she
asks the experts to share their knowledge so that every student
will get information about four topics: doing exercises; eating
healthy; drinking water and the heart.
Students count from 1 to 4 and divide into 4
groups. Each group of experts has 4 students (1
great, 1 super, 1 cool and 1 excellent).
Experts study and discuss the given information.

Experts return to their own groups to share their
knowledge and discuss on four topics: doing

Teacher says “I see you know how each type of food affects to
our body. Now you are going to do online quiz to know how
much you know about your heart. But firstly let us get some

Creating a
healthy
menu
Teacher gives each team paper flipcharts, pictures of food and
markers to create a healthy menu for breakfast, lunch and
dinner. Criteria: menu must be balanced and healthy.

Teacher asks each team to choose a presenter and do a
presentation of team’s menu. Presenters should be able to

Assessment
Teacher gives students a sheet of paper for assessment and
asks to assess presentation with a help of “Two stars and a
wish”
Students assess presentations using “Two stars and
a wish”. They write two things they like and one
wish about the presentation.

Sharing
opinions
Teacher asks students to write what they’ve learned at the
lesson on KWL sheets. Then teacher asks:
1. What was new information for you at the lesson?
2. What activities did you like most? Why?
3. Are you satisfied with your work and why?
4. What is your conclusion about the lesson?
5. Did your opinion about healthy life change? How and why?
Then teacher says: “I hope you liked the lesson and it was
useful and interesting for you. Thank you for active
participation! Goodbye!”
Students write what they’ve learned at the lesson
on KWL sheets.
Students answer the questions and share opinions.
