  • Secondary Education in Russia.
  • If we compare the educational systems of Russia and Great Britain, we will see that they have something common.
  • First of all, the system of education in Russia also consists of three stages: primary, secondary and higher education.
  • Children under 6 can attend nursery schools and kindergartens.
Primary school begins for the children aged 6. They study in it for 4 years. The subjects they study are: Russian, Maths, History, PE, Music, Handicraft, Art and a foreign language.

  • The pupils move to a secondary school at the age of 10. Some new subjects are added to those they study in the primary school, such as: Literature, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Computer Science, Social Studies, World Culture and others. After finishing the 9th form the pupils take Basic level exam for the Certificate of Basic Education.
  • Education in state schools is free of charge and in private schools parents have to pay fees.

  • There is a great variety of secondary schools in our country: comprehensive schools and schools where much attention is paid either to foreign languages or different branches of science . We can also mention gymnasiums and lyceums.

  • Pupils take part in sports competitions, concerts, festivals.
  • They issue wall newspapers, go on excursions and to exhibitions, travel to other cities and countries, etc.
  • Pupils can attend various clubs according to their interests; they can also go to swimming pools, sports, musical, art schools to develop their abilities.
  • At present the system of education in Russia is being reformed. A lot of changes have been introduced, including Russian State Examination for school -leavers. It has been declared that this exam will become obligatory all over the country in 2009.
