There are also many places of interest in Moscow The Red Square The Red Square was founded at the end of the 15th century. Red Square is located just outside the Kremlin, along its eastern wall. Red Square is a large open square in the center of Moscow. The square is fenced in the State Historical Museum building, the GUM building, and St. Basil Cathedral. Red Square has always been the main square in Moscow. For many centuries Red Square has served as the place for important historical events.

The Red Square

  • Officially the cathedral is called the Cathedral of
  • the Intercession of the Virgin. It was constructed in 1560 to the order of Ivan the Terrible.
  • The Cathedral contains the iconostasis of the Trinity Church, the famous Entry into Jerusalem icon.
  • The exotic splendour of the Cathedral makes it one of the best and most striking examples of Old Russian architecture.

Exhibition of the achievements of national economy of the USSR VDNKh is the former name of All-Russian Exhibition Centre which is located not far from the centre of Moscow. In the past VDNKh acted as the storefront of Soviet socialistic economics, now it is one of the most popular places where people may walk and entertain. Almost all of the beautiful pavilions of VDNKh serve nowadays as the fair of low-guality goods of unknown origin. Exhibition of the achievements of national economy of Russia Ostankino TV Tower The Bolshoi theatre The State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Russia is one of the most famous musical theatres in the world. It was founded in 1776. Of great significance in the history of the theatre was opera and ballet legacy of such great Russian composers as Peter Tchaikovsky, Modest Mussorgsky, Alexander Borodin, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. The history of the Bolshoi Theatre numbers many distinguished singers and dancers who were passing traditions of Russian vocal and actor school from generation to generation.

The Bolshoi theatre Arbat Street The Arbat is a true symbol of old Moscow, and has recently celebrated its 500th anniversary. Over the years the street has developed into one of the most popular places in Moscow with various souvenir shops, cafes, cultural centers, etc. This is a peculiar area of many small streets and lanes with beautiful XVIII and XIX century mansions, museums and shops. A State Department Store (GUM) This largest in Moscow State Department Store was built at the end of the19th century on the east side of Red Square. This modern 3-story shopping arcade is the largest one in Moscow, and was built to replace the old hall of the Upper Trading Rows. Today the GUM is the main shopping mall in Moscow, which houses plenty of famous international stores. The Metro The Moscow Metro is the most popular public transport facility of the city. The first line of the Moscow Metro, the Sokolnicheskaya Line, was opened in 1935 and included 13 stations. Currently, the metro system has grown into an enormous network of 11 lines and over 160 stations, with new stations opening every year.

The Kremlin Museums: 1.The diamond fond 2. The Lenin Mausoleum 3. The Armory Museums 1. THE DIAMOND FUND This is a precious gem collection housed in the building of the Kremlin Armoury.  The collection consists of jewelry made for the royal court and the Imperial regalia. The collection of regalia in the Diamond Fund consists of the Great and Small crowns, maces, scepters, the Great Chain with the cross and star of the Order of St. Andrew. 2. THE LENIN MAUSOLEUM When it became known about Lenin's death it was decided to build a Mausoleum by the Kremlin wall. The museum houses a big collection of different historical documents that vividly depict the events happened in the beginning of our century, Lenin's manuscripts, personal belongings and fine arts all connected with his life and the founding of the Soviet State. 3. THE ARMOURY The Armoury is one of the oldest museums on the Kremlin grounds and now is a part of the Kremlin Palace’s complex. It is situated in the building constructed in 1851 by architect Konstantin Ton. Museum’s collections consist of precious items that had been preserved for centuries in the tsars" treasury and the Patriarch’s vestry. The Pushkin State Museum Of Fine Art On 31 May 1912 there was a ceremonial opening of the museum. It is one of Russia's largest museums, boasts a fine collection modern Western-European, ancient Oriental and classical Greek and Roman art. The real pride of the museum is the collection of French Impressionists, one of the best in the world. It includes works by Cezanne, Degas, Monet, Matisse, Picasso and Van Gogh. The gallery was founded in 1856, when Paul Tretyakov, a young Moscow merchant, bought the first paintings for his collection. He continued to collect works of the talented artists throughout his life. The Tretyakov Gallery contains about 57,000 works of art. There are a lot of pictures of very famous painters, such as Rublev, Kramskoi, Levitan, Repin, Serov, Surikov and many others. The collection gives a clear idea of the history of Russian art. The gallery was founded in 1856, when Paul Tretyakov, a young Moscow merchant, bought the first paintings for his collection. He continued to collect works of the talented artists throughout his life. The Tretyakov Gallery contains about 57,000 works of art. There are a lot of pictures of very famous painters, such as Rublev, Kramskoi, Levitan, Repin, Serov, Surikov and many others. The collection gives a clear idea of the history of Russian art.
