knowing traditions, celebrations and customs.According to our theme, we are going to compare holidays in
two countries. Exactly celebrating holidays reflects national history, culture and finally people’s inner
world, soul. So, it’s time to start our performance, you are welcome!
Music Boney-M: “Hooray-Hooray it’s holi-holiday!’ (Учащиеся, танцуя вбегают в класс и
танцуют),
Ученица:Many festivals and holidays in Britain аnd in our country are very old. Almost every town and
village in Britain has its own traditions, some involving months of careful planning and preparations of
costumes and dancing.
Ведущий учитель: Х-mas is the largest and most favourite holiday in Britain. They celebrate it on
the 25 th of December. As for the Russians Рождество is on the 7-th of January. The English give
presents to each other for Christmas, but the Russians prefer giving and getting gifts for a New Year. So, we
can say that for the British celebrating Christmas is more important than celebrating beginning a New
Year. And for the Russians on the contrary: everybody waits, prepares for the starting a New Year.
The beginning of a new year is a time for celebrating and for making a new start. People wish each other
“Happy New Year” and send special greeting cards. On New Year’s Eve (December 31
st
) many people go
to parties with their families, neighbors and friends. They go to bed after midnight to “see the New Year
in” at 12 o’clock. In London people gather to celebrate in Trafalgar Square. From there they can hear Big
Ben, the large clock at the Houses of Parliament.
When Big Ben strikes, they all hug and kiss each other and shout “Happy New Year”. January 1
st
is a
public holiday in Britain and the US. For older people it’s a quiet day in front of the television. But young
people go out and meet their friends at parties, discos and different clubs.
Jingle Bells”
During the holiday children go from house to house in the evening. They ring handbells and sing carols,
Christmas songs.(С маленьким колокольчиком в руках ходит по кругу и начинает песню-кэрол)
We wish you Merry Christmas”
On St Valentine’s Day people send a special greeting card (Valentine) to those who they love. It’s a
tradition not to give the name of the sender. Some people buy presents for their sweethearts or give them
red roses, a symbol of love.
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Sugar is sweet
And so are you
Lilies are white
Rosemary’s green
When I’m a king
You are my queen
Meet me in the morning.
Meet me at noon.
Meet me in September.
Or the middle of June.
Meet me at midnight.
Meet me in the hall.
Meet me in summer.
Meet me in the fall.
Meet me in the evening.
Meet me at eight.
I’ll meet you any time you want,
But, please, don’t be late.
Музыка “My Bonny is over the ocean” (мальчик с девочкой танцуют, все поют)
Mother’s Day is celebrated three weeks before Easter. This is the time for people living in the UK to think
about their mothers. People often give flowers or chocolates or organize a special day out for their mothers
at this time. They also send a special “Mother’s Day” card.
Песня May there always be sunshine” (девочка солирует первый куплет песни, припев хором;

Easter is one of the principal festivals of the Christian calendar and it’s the most
important and favourite in Russia. Easter eggs are the symbol of new birth. At Easter time people give eggs
to each other both in Russia and in Great Britain. At this time specially children have a lot of fun because
it’s time of Easter holidays (выразительное исполнительное стихотворения “Three little kittens из
Pancake Day is the last day before the period which Christians call Lent (Великий пост) in February or
March. It is traditional on this day to eat pancakes. A pancake is a thin, flat cake fried in a frying pan. For
pancakes, you need flour, eggs and milk. You can eat them with lots of things including sugar, golden
syrup, or jam. Some people add lemon juice. In some parts of Britain, there are pancake races on this day.
People race with a frying pan in one hand. They have to throw a pancake in the air and catch it again in the
frying pan as they run.(Демонстрирует, как «метать» блин на сковороде,не роняя и на бегу).
Easter Sunday is the day when Christians celebrate Christ’s return to life and victory over death. On this
day many people go to church. Children get presents of chocolate Easter eggs.(Показывает красивое
Easter always means spring, new life after winter, flowers, green trees and young
animals, especially lambs and chicks. Some time ago it was a tradition to make new clothes and hats for
Easter.
Hippity hop, hippity hop,
Will the Easter Bunny stop?
Will he leave a treat behind
An Easter basket for me to find?
I’ll look over here, I’ll look over there.
I’ll look behind things, I’ll look everywhere.
I’ll look until I find my treat,
And then I’ll sit right down and eat
After summer holidays children a new school year both in Russia and Britain. Then all British children
begin preparing for celebrating Halloween. But in Russia this holiday isn’t spread very much. For the
Russians autumn is associated with harvest, fruit and vegetables.
Halloween.
Celebrating Halloween is a very old tradition. Long ago people thought that on 31 October spirits of the
dead came back. That’s why now some people dress up as witches and ghosts. They make lamps of
pumpkin. Sometimes children go out in groups, knock on people’s doors and say “Trick or treat”. They
usually get a treat, some sweets or nuts. People also have Halloween parties where they often play games.
Halloween means “holy evening”. Children cut horrible faces in a pumpkin and put a candle inside. The
light shines through the holes. Children dressed in white sheets knock on doors. Some people don’t give
them treats and children make a lot of noise or spill some flour on the doorsteps.
Halloween games are very old. Many centuries Halloween celebrations provide friends, relatives
and good neighbours with a possibility for some fun. Now we are going to play “The Best Halloween
Man”. I have got a feather. I’ll tickle my friends’ face, neck with this feather. The person who will not
laugh at this moment, will be calm,is the best Halloween man.
Who doesnt like holidays? Holidays usually mean not going to school or to work, they also mean nice
food, presents and a lot of fun. Everybody likes them. We have told you about some of traditional holidays
which are celebrated in the UK and in Russia. We hope you have enjoyed our performance. Thanks a lot
for your attention! Boney-M” “Hooray-
Hooray, its holi-holiday”.
